ELECTRONIC HEALTH RECORD SELECTION, PLANNING AND IMPLEMENTATION
CPC provided seasoned and knowledgeable business analysts and project managers to assist with the selection, planning and implementation of a new flagship electronic health record suite. The system will provide a seamless and paperless patient centric view to physicians, nurses and other healthcare providers. Some of the suite’s key features include a Combined Medical Record (CMR) application, Medication Management (Med Man) application and Documentation Management (Doc Man) application. This entire suite is delivered in a redundant and high-availability wireless environment, which allows the healthcare provider to do their job more freely.
EPIC IMPLEMENTATION RESOURCES
CPC provided senior Epic application coordinators to supplement our client's orders and professional billing implementation teams. CPC was responsible for the final stages of go live efforts and working through post go live issues. CPC consultants brought previous go live experience to stream line efforts to install the final pieces of the system and support the team members and staff to understand system benefits and limitations.
ORGAN PROCUREMENT ORGANIZATION
CPC assisted in building a custom software product to replace the current Organ Donor Tracking System. The system tracks organ donors from initial referral, through the phases of consent, clinical management, organ recovery and transplantation as well as family follow-up. The system offers features addressing hospital and community development, including hospital profiles and development plans and activities, designated requestor tracking and community development activities. A paperless environment is supported with electronic storage of supporting documentation as well as electronic transmission of data to partner agencies and hospitals. The system also addresses aspects of staff management and quality control and improvement.
EPIC AND MEDITECH INTEGRATION
CPC enabled the business analyst / project manager functions to initiate and manage multiple projects within an EMR program. The EMR program goal to launch clinical integration deliverables, workflows and policies between Epic EMR and Meditech EMR in two separate hospitals allowed both organizations to exchange patient electronic health data. The end result was the creation of a new Regional Health Information Organization (RHIO) called NEWHVN. CPC determined workflow processes, best practices and security requirements of shared patient data including HIPAA and HL-7 and ANSI X12 4010 transactions such as (270/271, 276/277, 835) between two health organizations with different EHR systems. CPC also created analysis tools and applied metrics to lead BAs gathering single sign-on application and deployment requirements via business analysis of clinical, technical, and processes for three separate healthcare organizations as well as 300+ independent providers within network.
NEW HOSPITAL IMPLEMENTATION
The CPC team managed a number of IT, Logistics, Process Change Management, and Department set-up projects for a new hospital, lab, and clinic facility. This Hospital represents the First 100% Digital EMR Hospital in the State of Wisconsin. Prior to engaging CPC, the hospital was at risk for delaying the opening of a new hospital due to IT, process, infrastructure, and logistics issues. The CPC team:
- Developed project management tools and templates to help establish the PMO
- Identified and corrected issues with the process by establishing a process to prioritize equipment purchasing by procurement and set-up lead time
- Planned and coordinated relocation from temporary office spaces into the new facility
- Defined the workflow processes to be followed in the new facility
- Managed the IT and infrastructure build and deployment in the new facility
- Established the go-live command center to ease the transition of the staff into the new facility
- Developed a method to prioritize projects based on 17 measurable factors to establish value and complexity
- Managed the VISICU implementation for Remote Intensivist Monitoring
HEALTHCARE IT STRATEGY
The CPC team performed an IT assessment and strategy for a healthcare provider with over 20 rural hospitals and clinics. The goal was to develop a centralized shared services organization (SSO) model for providing IT management support to the hospitals. The CPC team performed a site survey at each facility to identify similarities and difficulties in approximately 35 critical topic areas. They also researched the current and future trends three to five years out in each of the assessment areas for both the healthcare industry and general IT infrastructure. The result was a proposal that would bring the individual sites to common standards, recommend changes to organizational structures for the SSO, relocate and consolidate servers and data centers, develop disaster recovery sites, and the creation of projects to prepare the organization to adapt to future technology improvements.
